Preparation of the PTE Test:

1) Speaking and Writing: Speaking and Writing has the following sections:

1. Personal Introduction: Personal Introduction is the chance for you to give some selected information about yourself. You will have just 25 seconds to read the prompt and prepare for your response and after you have just 30 seconds to record your response. This recording will have sent to the score report of the institution selected by you.

2. Read aloud: There are following instructions you have to follow:

• Task: Some text you see on the screen. Read aloud that text.
• Skill Assessed: Skill you are improving in this is Reading and Writing
• Prompt Length: Make sure the text length is 60 words.
• Time to answer: It depends on the length of the Text.
You have just 30–40 seconds to prepare that text, depending on the size of the text. You hear some beep, after that beep, start reading immediately and loudly. Don’t start speaking until your microphone is not started.
You have to finish your speaking before the progress bar reaches to end. The recorded automatically converted into completed. One tip for you: If you remain silent for more than 3 seconds, then recording will stop automatically.
3.Repeat the Sentence: There are following instructions you have to follow:
• Task: After listening to the audio or that recording of the sentence, repeat the sentence.
• Skills assessed: Skill that you improve is Listening and speaking.
• Prompt Length: The length of the sentence is 3–9 seconds.
• Time to answer: You have just 15 seconds to repeat that sentence.
The audio plays automatically. When audio finishes and recording status shows “recording”. Speak immediately after finishing the audio because there is no beep after audio so repeats immediately and exactly what you heard properly.
There is no need to rush so speak exactly.
Finish your speaking before the progress bar reaches to the end. The word “Recording” automatically changes to “Completed”.
You are not able to replay your audio again.
4. Describe Image: There are following instructions you have to follow:
· Task: You have to describe the image that appears on the screen.
· Skills Assessed: Speaking
· Prompt Length: N/a
· Time to answer: you have just 40 seconds to the answer to describing the image.
The recording shows the countdown option until the microphone opens. You have just 25 seconds to study the image and prepare yourself. You hear a short beep after 25 seconds and you have to start immediately after the short beep.
You are able to record your answer just one time.
5. Re-tell lecture: There are following instructions you have to follow:
· Task: After listening to a lecture, then you have to retell the lecture in your own words.
· Skills Assessed: Listening and Speaking
· Prompt Length: above 90 seconds
· Time to answer: You have just 40 seconds.
When the audio plays, you have to hear properly, then you have to prepare for just 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, you hear a tone. After that tone, speak immediately after finishing, the recorded box changes into finished or completed.
Tip for you: when audio is playing, you are provided with an erasable note board for notes.
6. Answer Short Questions: Following instructions, you have to follow for this section:
· Task: Answer with one word or with some words after listening to the question.
· Skills Assessed: Listening and Speaking
· Prompt Length: 5–10 seconds
· Time to answer: just 10 seconds.
The audio has to play automatically.
When the audio finishes, the microphone opens and the recording box shows “Recording”. Speak into the microphone immediately (because there is no short tone so after playing, answer immediately) and answer the question with one or a few words.
You must speak clearly. There is no need to rush.
You have to finish speaking before the progress bar reaches the end. The word “Recording” changes to “Completed”.
You are not able to replay the audio.
7. Summarize Written Text: Following instructions, you have to follow while summarizing the text:
· Task: Write a one-sentence summary of the project, after reading the text.
· Skills Assessed: Reading and Writing
· Prompt Length: 300 Words
· Time to Answer: approx. 10 minutes
You have a maximum of 10 minutes to write your summary. Make sure you have to include the main points of the reading passage of no more than 75 words.
The Word Counter at the bottom of the screen counts the number of words you write or you can use some software to count your words. There are also cut, copy and paste options that you use while writing your summary.
8. Essay: Following important points you have to remember:
· Task: Write an essay on the given topic about 200–300 words.
· Skills Assessed: Writing
· Prompt Length: 2–3 sentence:
· Time to Answer: 20–30 minutes.
You have just 20 minutes to write your essay on a given topic.
The Word Count at the bottom of the screen counts the number of words you write so make sure that length is of just 200–300 words.
There are also cut, copy and paste buttons that you may choose to use while writing your essay.
2) Reading: Reading has the following Sections:
In this section, you will be tested on your Reading Skills. This single timed section contains 15–20 independent skills items in a given test. Because PTE Academic is integrated into which this part also assesses writing skills.

1. Reading and Writing Fill in the Blanks: In this session, your task is you have to fill in the blanks. You see some text appear on the screen with so many gaps. You have to fill that gap by dragging the suitable word from the hints given below.
You have to prepare by firstly you have to read the whole passage with whole concentration and write the suitable words in the gap.
· Task: A text appears on the computer screen with so many gaps. Your task is to drag the suitable words from the drop-down box to fill the gaps.
· Skills assessed: Reading
· Prompt Length: length must be more than 300 words.
2. Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer:
· Task: After reading that text, you have to answer the multiple-choice questions on the content of the text.
· Skills assessed: Reading
· Prompt length: Text up to 300 words
3. Re-Order Paragraphs: You see many text boxes on the screen. Your task is to rearrange all boxes incorrect order. For this type, you need to restore the original order of text by selecting all the text boxes and drag the boxes across the screen.
How you can Move the Text?
· You have to click the button on a box the box highlighted in blue color hold that box with your left mouse button and place it on the desired option.
· Click the left button on the box to select it, then left-click on the right and left arrows to move across.
· If you want to de-select the box, then left-click on anywhere on the screen.
3.) Listening: Listening consists of such type of questions that are based on audio or video clips which play automatically. You hear each clip only once so you have to listen carefully. You will be provided with an erasable note board to make notes.
For each question of this section, you have an opportunity to adjust the volume of Audio or Video.
Following types of questions arise in the Listening Module:
1. Summarize spoken text
2. Multiple choices, Multiple Answer

4. Multiple Choice, Single Answer
5. Select Missing Word
6. Write from Dictation
7. Highlight Incorrect words
8. Highlight Correct summary
1. Summarize Spoken Text: In this section, you have to write a summary of about 50–70 words after listening to the audio. The listening is about 60–90 seconds and you have to listen very carefully because it will be played only once. After you listen, you have just 10 seconds and you have to write a summary of about 50–70 words. Make sure the length is not more than 70 words.
2. Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer: In this, you have to answer the multiple-choice questions by selecting Multiple Answers. The options you select are highlighted in yellow color. If you want to dis-select the option which you select previously, then click on the answer by the left button and it will be removed and you will write a suitable answer in that place.
3. Fill in the Blanks: It is usually you have to fill the gaps by typing the word. There is a listening section you see on the screen with several gaps. After listening to the recording, type the missing word. While Audio is playing, you are provided with an erasable note board for making notes.
4. Highlight Correct Summary: After listening to the recording, you have to choose the correct paragraph that is suitable for recording. The skills assessed in this is Reading and Writing. You see several possible responses summarize the recording but the answer is correct one.
One tip for you: It might be difficult for everyone that you have to listen and read at the same time. So you firstly listen properly and then make notes on the erasable note board and then read summaries or choose the correct option.
5. Multiple choices, Single Answer: In this after listening to the recording, you have to answer the multiple-choice questions and the answer is just one. The skill Assessed in this is Listening. The option you select is highlighted in yellow color.
6. Select Missing Words: After listening to the recording, you have to select the missing word that completes the recording from the list of options or hints provided in the drop-down box. The skill Assessed in this is Listening. There are so many possible choices but the answer is only one. The option you selected is highlighted in yellow color.
7. Highlight Incorrect Words: In the computer screen, you see the script of recording. While listening, identify the words that differ from the script or what is said in listening. For this, you are provided with a transcript of listening, however, that script contains too many errors. While listening to the recording or reading the script, you need to select the words that differ from what the recording says.
8. Write from Dictation: After listening to the recording, you have to write the sentence into the response box at the bottom of the screen. While the recording is playing, you are provided with an erasable note board to make notes. Make sure the spelling must be correct.
As PTE is a computer-based test, it would be easier for you to prepare for PTE online than the classroom approach.
